Real Brit Gangsta’s Keepin’ It Real
Every so often we come across a non-music story that we think you’ll like, and this is one of those times.
Two stars from Guy Ritchie’s hit movie Snatch, twins Nicola and Teena Collins got behind the camera to create this multi-award winning documentary about real life English Gangsters – think the real Soprano’s, but UK style.
Nicola and Teena were the hapless twin daughters of gangster Mike Reid in the 2000 movie Snatch. For this hard hitting documentary Nicola gets behind the camera to interview her real Dad, gangster Les Falco and his friends including bank robber Victor Dark, debt collector Micky Goldtooth and infamous bare knuckle fighter Roy Shaw.
As we meet the guys and learn of their childhood, living in poverty in the East End of London you help but think they seem to have thought things through pretty reasonably. They’ve got a strong loyalty to one another and they just seemed to be trying for a better life for themselves and their families. Ultimately you’ve got to also think about what they aren;t saying and make you’re own judgements.
The movie doesn’t seek to glorify or villainize these men, simply to let them tell their own stories, in their own words. Each man has paid his debt to society multiple times, with the characters themselves admitting crime does not pay.
Beautifully shot in grainy black and white, Nicola Collins seems a far more experienced film director than just having made this, her debut film. It seems Film Critics agree as this documentary won 5 prestigious awards.
The End- British Gangsters is available September 1st on VOD including; AT&T, Charter, Verizon, DIRECTV VOD, DISH Network IPVOD, RCN, Insight, Mediacom, Bresnan, Suddenlink, Sony Playstation Amazon VOD, Best Buy/Cinemanow VOD, Blockbuster On Demand Today, iTunes.
